BS&MS Combined Degree

1. Continuous BS-MS Track: Overview

A. Purpose
In accordance with the provisions of Article 4, Paragraph (3) of the KAIST Statutes, regarding the institution and operation of continuous degree tracks, the Continuous BS-MS Track is intended to allow students demonstrating academic distinction early admission to a master's program and advance directly thereto upon receipt of a bachelor's degree.
B. Curriculum
There is no separate curriculum for this track; it follows the existing curriculum.
C. Faculty Advisor Assignment: Assignments are made at the time of matriculation in a master's program.
D. Student Affiliation
ㅇ Before receiving a BS, the student is regarded as an undergraduate in his/her current department.
ㅇ Upon receipt of a BS, the student is registered as a master's student in the department to which he/she has applied.

2. Call for Applicants

A. Departments (Majors) - 5 Departments

Department of Bio and Brain Engineering, School of Mechanical Aerospace & Systems Engineering (Division of Mechanical Engineering, Division of Aerospace Engineering), Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering

B. Number of Openings
Within 50% of the master's level entering class in each relevant department (major) for 2011

C. Qualifications
1) Among students who have attended four or more semesters (two or more in the case of transfer students) and completed 65 or more course credits in a KAIST undergraduate program,
2) Those who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a GPA of 3.0/4.3 and who satisfy the additional requirements of the department (major) to which he/she is applying.

□ Additional Requirements by Department (Major)
a) Department of Bio and Brain Engineering
ㅇ No additional requirements.
b) School of Mechanical Aerospace & Systems Engineering (Division of Mechanical Engineering)
ㅇ Completed credits for major courses: 12 or more
c) School of Mechanical Aerospace & Systems Engineering (Division of Aerospace Engineering)
ㅇ Completed credits for major courses: 12 or more
ㅇ GPA: 3.3/4.3 or higher
d) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
ㅇ Completed credits for major courses: 21 or more
ㅇ GPA: 3.5/4.3 or higher
e) Department of Materials Science and Engineering
ㅇ GPA: 3.3/4.3 or higher

D. Selection Process: All applicants must undergo primary and secondary screening.
● Primary screening: Application review (including an English test score)
● Secondary screening: Interview

※ Submission of English test scores: Each applicant must submit one test score for TOEFL, TOEIC, TEPS or IELTS. To qualify, the test must have been taken within the time frame specified below.
- Standard TOEFL, TOEIC, TEPS, IELTS: Taken within two years of the application deadline
- Agency TEPS administered by KAIST: Taken within three years of the application deadline
- TOEFL, TOEIC, TEPS, IELTS scores already recognized during admission to KAIST: Taken within three years of the application deadline

ㅇ Applicants who attended university in a country whose native language is English for two or more years (as of the application deadline) are not required to submit an English test score.

F. Evaluation Criteria
1) Application review
Evaluation of potential and future prospects as a high-level science and technology professional, based on the documents submitted
2) Interview
Evaluation of professionalism, character, extra-curricular activities, and other attributes

G. Schedules and Locations
1) Application form:

2) Application submission:
- Date: 2012. 4. 10 (Tue), 10:00 - 4. 16 (Mon.), 17:00
- Location: Creative Learning B/D(E-11), second floor, Admissions Management Team
3) Application review, interview, final evaluation: 2012. 5. 8 (Tue) - 5. 31 (Thur.)
※ Interview dates and locations will be communicated individually.
4) Announcement of results: 2012. 6. 26 (Tue.) (individual notice)

H. Required Documentation
※ 1. The form for requesting recognition of an English score at KAIST is available for download on the Office of Admissions website.
2. As KAIST does not administer its own English test, the applicant must attach his/her English grade transcripts when applying.

ㅇ Undergraduate grades:
- Overall GPA: Please provide your GPA as shown in the official transcript.
- Course credits earned: Please provide your total earned credits as shown in the official transcript.
- Major GPA: Calculate and record your GPA for all courses taken in your major, as shown in the official transcript.
- Major credits: Calculate and record your earned credits for all courses taken in your major, as shown in the official transcript.

4. Others

 The BS-MS Combined program is going to be abolished starting with admission screening for 2013.
